Tupelo District Lay Servant School
January 11 2023
We hope you will join us February 11, 2023 for the 2023 Tupelo District Lay Servant Training at Wesley UMC (Tupelo)!
Lay Servant Ministries is one of the most significant lay leadership development programs available within the United Methodist connection. Through this equipping and empowering system, lay servants can grow as disciples of Jesus Christ who then go and make other disciples.
Interested in learning more about Lay Servant Ministries? Take the Adult Basic Course! Since we have not offered an in-person lay servant school since 2020, we are offering 2 classes of the Basic Course! One class will be led by Rev. Mary R. Hutson, Ordained Elder serving Aberdeen First United Methodist and the second class will be led by Cheryl Denley, Senatobia District Secretary and former Conference Director of Lay Speaking. This class is must to begin Lay Servant Ministries.
You already took the Basic class? Awesome! We have 2 more great classes!
Lay Pastoral Care Giving: Led by Rev. Fawn Keen, Associate Pastor at Tupelo First UMC Expressing care to someone in need—whether within the community of faith or beyond—may seem the most natural thing in the world. For some, it is; for others, it's less so. Learn to reach out with God's love and care for others as outlined in this practical class.
As Bishop Lewis talked about in her recent video, she believes our churches need to begin cultivating our youth and young people now. We are excited to offer a new lay servant class titled Campus Ministry: Empowering Congregations to Support Students at Colleges and Universities that we hope will lead our churches in further developing the spiritual lives of our young people. Led by Rev. Corey Truett, Ordained Elder serving as Associate Pastor, focusing on youth and college ministry, at New Albany FUMC. This new course from Lay Servant Ministries helps lay servants understand and communicate the key role played by local churches in nourishing the spiritual lives of college students through campus ministries and to discern how United Methodist congregations may be called to serve students.
The flyer for the upcoming Tupelo District Lay Servant School was emailed January 23, 2023 and copies are also available at the Tupelo District Office.
