Conference & District Cancellations and Postponements

Hopefully, you have already read the document from the Mississippi Conference called “A Statement of Care and Compassion Concerning the Coronavirus Outbreak. If not, please read and follow its recommendations. The Center for Disease Control, state health agencies and local city/county health departments are providing regular updates and recommendations to combat this pandemic.
The clergy and laity leadership in each church are asked to daily monitor these updates and make decisions to alter their worship schedule, practices, and other programming gatherings accordingly. Please notify the District Office via email of any changes you make.
Please note that all District and Conference level “in person” events through April 30, 2020 have been cancelled or postponed until a later date.
Though it is disappointing, the last thing we want to do is put people’s health in jeopardy and for that reason the following upcoming scheduled events are being postponed/rescheduled or will occur using Zoom. Participants will not need ZOOM accounts to connect to the meeting. After clicking the invite link, participants will need to only follow to the prompts to connect to the meeting.
Events Cancelled or Postponed:
Listening Sessions for General Conference are postponed: March 28 at Anderson’s UMC, March 29 at Heritage UMC, April 18 at Oxford University, and April 19 at Starkville FUMC.
Church Security and Hospitality Conference on March 24 - 26 are cancelled.
African American Clergy Gathering with Bishop Swanson is postponed until further notice.
March 19 – Tupelo District Board of Laity meeting - cancelled
March 24 – Tupelo District Finance meeting will reschedule using ZOOM
March 30 – Tupelo District Clergy Only meeting – will reschedule using ZOOM (clergy – be looking for an email invite to “attend the meeting)
April 2 – Tupelo District Leadership Team meeting - will host meeting via ZOOM)
April – Tupelo District Lay Rally - cancelled
April 4 – IMPACT Youth Event – postponed.
As this is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation, we will continue to monitor the situation and will assess the remaining scheduled spring events in a few weeks. Please watch for emails from both the Conference office and the District office as well as notices on the Conference and District websites and Facebook pages.
The District Office remains open at this time. However, we ask that you please call or email us with questions, etc…rather than coming by the office. If you need an appointment, please call us and we will schedule an appointment for you!
We know the Church is not a building! Email pictures, write a short paragraph, anything! And let us of how you and your church are being the Church during this uncertain time!
